Conservation:
Use water wisely
Water
conservation should be a continuing way of life. As a community we need to use
water wisely. You can help save thousands of gallons of water every year. How?

·
Replace washers when garden hoses start to drip.
·
Fix leaky faucets.
·
Check faucets and toilets frequently.
·
Use a hose with a trigger nozzle that automatically shuts off.
·
Keep a container of drinking water in the refrigerator instead
of running the tap for cold water.
·
Use a bucket of soapy
water to wash the car.
·
Wash your car on the
grass, as this also will water your lawn.
·
Use organic mulch around plants and shrubs
to save in water use.
·
Insulate your hot water
pipes so your water heater does not have to run as much water to get it hot.
·
Keep a pitcher of water
in the refrigerator instead of running tap water until the water gets cold.
Do you know?
Leaks of ¼ gallon a minute will leak 360 gallons a day, 10,800 gallons a month and
32,000 gallons a quarter.
A hole 1/16 of an inch will waste 74,000 gallons per quarter at 60 PSI.
Water your lawn only when necessary. If the grass springs back up
when you walk on it, it doesn't need watering.
·
Save time and money by watering your lawn early in the morning.
·
When you water early, you can water less because more of the
water is absorbed into the lawn.
·
Don't "sprinkle". Grass needs deep watering that gets to the
roots.
·
Watering well allows you to water less often. Lawns with deep
root growth are more drought resistant.
·
Don't water the driveway! Position your sprinkler to water just
the grass.
·
Remember to turn off the sprinkler.
·
Fill the swimming pool during the night or very early in the
morning when water usage is lower.
