WATER SYSTEM OPERATIONS

Shippensburg Borough Authority serves water to the following Communities:
|

Borough of Shippensburg, Borough of Orrstown, Shippensburg Township, Southampton Cumberland Township, Southampton Franklin Township, Lurgan Township and small portion of Letterkenny Township. Population served approximately 18,000. |

The water system includes the Gunter Valley Water Treatment Plant, (6) six reservoirs, two wells, (2) two booster stations and several pressure regulating stations, along with about 150 miles of water line varying in size from 2" to 16" and the attaching fire hydrants, and water meters. |

Shippensburg Water Department water sources are the Letterkenny Reservoir; (2) two wells, one (1) located in the Village of Cleversburg and one (1) in the Village of Mainsville. Each source can produce about 1 million gallons of water a day. A third well located outside the Village of Cleversburg, went into service January 1st 2009. This source has a capacity of about 1.5 million gallons of water a day. |

The water provided by the Shippensburg Borough Authority is treated with Chlorine as a disinfectant, Caustic Soda for pH adjustment, ortho-polyphosphate for corrosion control, and fluoride. The Borough Authority tests the water weekly for bacteria to ensure clean and healthy drinking water. Other testing of our water has the Authority meeting or exceeding the Department of Environmental Protection standards and requirements. |
